Hello and welcome to my website!
My name is Francisca Baduya and I’m a third-year honors student majoring in Broadcast Journalism at Suffolk University.
Growing up in the panhandle of Pensacola, Florida or as I like to call it, “Alabama, Florida,” I’d wake up early in the morning to watch my local television station, WEAR-TV. Throughout elementary school, I’d always imagine myself on screen and think to myself, “how cool would it be to see someone that looked like me on TV?”
However, as I’ve grown up I’ve learned that seeing faces on TV that look like me mean more than just personal validation.
It’s about turning on a screen, seeing yourself and your community properly represented, and watching stories that matter to you.
Combining my passion for storytelling, reporting, and community-based journalism, I’ve made it a personal mission of mine to highlight under-represented cultures in the media.
Beyond highlighting the stories of under-represented communities and cultures in the media, I’ve also found deep fulfillment in spotlighting the voices of faculty members on Suffolk University’s podcast, “The On-Ramp.” I’ve hosted over nine podcast episodes and conducted in-depth interviews with college professors; providing them a platform to share their groundbreaking research and contributions to the field.
Across major news networks and community-based media outlets, I have honed and developed the ability to identify and pitch relevant stories impacting diverse communities. As a News Production Intern at Arlington Community Media Inc., I conduct online research, coordinate interviews with local organizations, and write scripts for broadcast. Over the course of my internship, I have contributed weekly content and supported ACMi’s team of producers, reporters, and technical crew in successfully relaunching the station’s weekly newscasts after a yearlong hiatus.
